Paige offered these thoughts on the immediate post-Zankou period in response to Ms. Foxfire's critical comments:
"Now, wait a minute, there foxy. Don't you think you're being a tad too unkind. I mean we were dead. At least, we were supposed to be. It's not like we had a whole bunch of time to sit down and figure out all the ins and outs. If we're supposed to be dead, how are we supposed to protect demons. And, we tried to protect innocents, at least I tried to. I had Billie play detective when innocent lives were being lost to the Thosis, the Impmaster and his imp minions. Oh, wait a minute! Was it Thosis, Antosis or just plain Halitosis, I can never seem to remember all of these demon names. Whatever! Well, anyway, we really did try to rescue the kids from Maliceland. It really, really sucked not being able to do this out in the open. And, my sisters and I finally admitted as much in Rewitched." Paige with a lengthy reply to ms. foxfire's comments on the Charmed Ones in Season 8.
Esmeralda responded warmly to Paige's comments and said:
I agree with you, Paige! You did SUCH a fantastic job! You truly cared for the innocents, putting them above you and your family, unlike your sister Piper who put her family above them and Phoebe who put Phoebe above them, something Prue didn't let either do. I wish *so* much that they had let you be the leader of the Charmed Ones, Paige. You had the training from your social work. You had the love, the caring, the nobility to put others that you didnt' know above yourself and your family. Despite being the youngest, you could've fill Prue's shoes so much better than Piper did!
Had they let YOU be the leader of the Charmed Ones, Piper still could've been the heart of her family and concentrated on Leo, Wyatt and Chris (she might have even been able to raise her kids and not keep foisting them on Victor!), Phoebe could've still been the baby and concentrated on her looking for her daughter's father, and the Charmed Ones still would've done their duty, the duty you guys agreed to do when the Angel of Destiny had given you the chance to give up your powers and have Piper's "normal life" (we know that in a day or so, she would've started griping about not having her powers, right, Paige?).
I wish the Angel had given you guys the same choice after Billie got Leo back for Piper (Piper certainly didn't...), because we know that you would've been outnumbered, Paige--Phoebe wanted her job and her daughter; Piper wanted her normal life--that was shown during Billie's visionquest. Hopefully the Angel would've let you keep your whitelighter powers so you could continue to follow what was obviously your destiny, Paige--once Prue died, you were the only one who deserved to keep them. Somewhere, Prue is SO proud of you, while she wants to kick her other sisters' a$$e$!
"Well, thanks, missy. Oh, there were times when I wanted to be the leader. And, Piper didn't really approve. You know how she is. Of course, she wouldn't. She was the new older sister, yada, yada, yada. But, Henry set me straight. You know with Richard, I had great ideas but he rarely followed my advice. I couldn't really get him to give up on magic till it was practically beaten into him. What kind of leader am I if I can't get my boyfriend to change his ways? Well, anyway, Henry pointed out that it's much better to lead when needed and be a team player when required. Now that I've got two daughters, I know I can't be super-witch. Prue or no Prue, I've got a family and a husband to worry about. Besides, I'd rather be the screw up with Phoebe than be the oh so infallible leader. Sorry, gotta go, Pheebs is on the line. What's she done now?"
