She is the mother of the Charmed Ones; believed to be a powerful witch in her own right. What do we really know about this woman who died at such a young age? Much like her daughter Phoebe, she seemed to be a lover of love. Without her there would be no Charmed Ones. Examine the life of Patty Halliwell, and give your input on this significant Warren witch.

Looking over these episodes, I think it's safe to say Patty loved Victor a great deal more than she loved Sam. I think the differences between the two was that Sam could accept Patty as being a witch, while Victor never really adjusted to the idea of his wife having supernatural powers. I have no doubt that Victor honestly loved Patty, and still does, which may account for him staying single until the series end.
In “Just Harried”, Patty seems almost shocked to hear that Victor doesn’t regret his marriage to Patty and that she was the best thing that happened to him sans the birth of his daughters. Leads one to think, had Patty never died would she have remained with Sam or eventually found her way back to Victor?

Are these episodes just supposed to be ones featuring Finola Hughes as Patty, or is this for the character of Patty? If the latter, then you've left out 1x13's "From Fear From Eternity," which Patty appears to help Prue from the pool and give her the strength to save her sisters from Barbas as well as tell them that she loves them. Looking over these episodes, I think it's safe to say Patty loved Victor a great deal more than she loved Sam. I think the differences between the two was that Sam could accept Patty as being a witch, while Victor never really adjusted to the idea of his wife having supernatural powers. I definitely don't agree with that. For me, it was evident that she loves and respects Victor as the father of three of her children, her first husband, and perhaps even her first love (given that she got pregnant with Prue when she was only nineteen), but when it comes right down to Victor and Sam, her love for Sam was far greater than her love for Victor. I think Victor and Patty's relationship was rushed, especially since they were so young. Since Victor didn't even know she was a witch until after the wedding, that makes me think that she probably got pregnant unexpectedly, they rushed the wedding, and never really had time to get to know one another until after they were already "forced" into a marriage. I think they were happy for a while (even with Grams butting in), and soon, they also had Piper, but the witch thing kept popping up and Victor, despite that he loved Patty, couldn't accept her for her. (As we saw in "Thank You For Not Morphing.") Hence the reason they ended up separating in early 1975, before Patty found out she was pregnant with Phoebe (and I'm guessing probably around the same time she was told it was medically impossible for her to have anymore children). So, after Victor found out about Phoebe, we know they got back together because Victor was there for the Christmas of 1976. But, even before that, things were still going downhill. Somewhere along the way, Patty began falling for Sam and visa versa. (Given his statement in "Sam I Am" about needing a cover story, I think it's safe to infer that Patty didn't know Sam was her whitelighter at first, just as Piper didn't with Leo.) They had an affair in the 1976 Christmas video, Patty was already 1-2 months pregnant with Paige, given Paige's birthdate) and Patty also found out he was a whitelighter (and yes, as you said, Sam did accept her magic, and therefor accepted all of Patty, unlike Victor, who refused to accept her magic, and thus, refused to accept who she was), though I haven't a clue whether she found that out before or after they slept together. Something tells me before, but as with Piper and Leo, it could've just as easily been after. Somewhere along the way, Victor also found out about whitelighters. Then the ice cream truck incident happened and Victor finally left. Patty and Sam stayed deeply in love. She wrote him her love letters. (Maybe she even started writing them before Paige's conception/birth.) They were obviously warned by The Elders, but refused to stay apart, then Sam tried to stop her at the lake but he didn't. He spent the rest of his life mourning her and knowing her daughters would be back to vanquish the Water Demon and wanted to stop them. And, of course, when he finally dies, she appears in a wedding dress with a wedding boquet to greet him and walk him into the afterlife. The symbolism of her in that dress, the way they look and physically touch each other, really shows me how much more powerful her love for Sam was than for Victor. I believe the wedding dress symbolizes that had Patty lived, she would've wanted to marry Sam, and not Victor.

If the latter, then you've left out 1x13's "From Fear From Eternity," which Patty appears to help Prue from the pool and give her the strength to save her sisters from Barbas as well as tell them that she loves them. It was for "Finola Patty", which is why I also left out "Thank You For Not Morphing"; an episode where Alyssa Milano played Patty in the Christmas home video safeguarded by Victor. Also, I tried to stick with episodes that clearly featured the character in person. I still am in firm belief that Patty loved Victor more, although I do believe she has a great love for Sam. It is possible for someone to be in love with more than one person, as Piper herself demonstrated on the show. After getting to know the matured Victor in "Just Harried", I can't help but think that Patty found herself falling for her ex-husband all over again. Maybe it just because the two actors (Finola Hughes and James Read) seem to have great chemistry, but their interaction in that episode as well as "Cheaper by the Coven" that Patty "rediscovered" her love for Victor...
