As many of you know, in the summer of 2006, TNT paired the afternoon Charmed showing on an even/odd basis. This prompted several thoughts on my part. Here are just a few.
Pairing even/odd shows will bring about some interesting contrasts. It does cause some difficulties, especially for the two part episodes. Still, even/odd has its advatages. Consider these pairings: Something Wicca (#156) with Still Charmed and Kicking (#157). Forever Charmed (#178) with Something Wicca (#1). I even like AHBL (#66) with Charmed Again Part 1 (#67), though I'd rather take it as a trilogy. Witch Wars (#132) and A Call to Arms (#135) was an interesting pairing, too! Deja Vu and Witch Trial wiil be as well, even though Witch Trial is rather weak. Still, death of Andy and the consequences for Prue seen back to back is interesting.
All of this talk makes me want to construct my own DVD collection of juxtaposed episodes. Let's see: we could have the four episode Sam arc. We could have the Piper and Leo marital dispute collection. We could have the compleat guide to PhoeME and contrast this with what I love about PhoeBE!
I'm lazy, what can I say. Rather than hunt out individual DVDs and have to change them, I'd rather make my own and try out new ways of experiencing Charmed. That sort is how I first watched the show: randomly. It was confusing. Here's Cole, now he's not. Who's Chris? Why isn't Leo their whitelighter anymore? What happened to Prue? Why did the outro music change?

Which bring up an old interesting question, what episodes would you show if you wanted to show someone the best summary of Charmed and what it was all about?
What 10? What 25? Or however many you think you would use to tell the most?

You know, Xenith, if we ever answer this question thoroughly and satisfactorily, we'd better copyright our idea since I can just imagine a repackaging DVD box set along these lines: the Essential Charmed (10 episode box set with a set of Charmed trading cards/tarot cards). Charmed Essentials (a 25 episode box set with 5 by 7 pictures of the leading characters, signed of course!

I would definitely include 'Something Wicca this Way Comes' and 'All Hell Breaks Loose' in a best of collection. but there are so many to choose from.
As for a collection of themed episodes, how about a Barbas collection, he was one of the best demons on Charmed.

For many, though, Crimes and (Witch)Demeanors might be a low point in the Barbas collection!

Honestly I would have to say A Call To Arms would be the lowest point of a Barbas collection. To me Crimes & Witchdemeanors was more of a dissapointment than anything, while A Call to Arms just plain all out completely sucked. The one and only thing I liked about Arms was Barbas' line as he was being vanquished "you know I'll be back. Fear always comes back!" (Of course everytime I think of that I remember that he was vanquished by a %$&@! potion...which no. And shouldn't the Charmed Ones needed to overcome fear with hope and not desire...(The bizzaro world opposite to fear) Aside from that though the Hindu gods subplot seemed just plain stupid to me, Leslie was introduced *shivers*, there was that whole boring left field subplot with Paige running magICK school, and of course the start of that assinine drive Leo crazy plot which was completely pointless.
Crimes by comparison to me was not so bad. Sure that episode has more contrivances than extremities I can count on, but some of them had potential. The sacrificing of Darryl for the greater good was an interesting idea. It also brought about the Charmed Ones taking a stand for what they believed in. And the trial of the Charmed Ones had such potential. Potential that Kern, Myers, and company chose to slam through the floor, spit on, and relieve themselves on... Would it have killed them to pick clips that were actually relevant to ANYTHING really??? The Charmed Ones were guilty of abusing magic plenty of times, and this kind of episode really could have been something if they hadn't turned it into a filler that haphazzardly resulted in Phoebe losing her powers due to something I'm not even sure how Barbas knew about....Aaargh!

All interesting points. What really sucks, though, is that Barbas was wasted on the ultimate battle. Wouldn't it have helped somewhat to have Billie so confused about distinguishing right from wrong that she mistakenly chose to side with her sister against the Charmed Ones because Barbas had so played with her mind? After all, wasn't that the brilliant stroke of genius that Barbas used on Paige to get her to free Cole from Barbas's torment, thereby gaining control of Cole's incredible, and unstoppable, powers? Imagine the possibilities! I have and in my ultimate, ultimate battle, Barbas will be back, because fear always comes back with a vengeance! No picayune potion can stop fear! (Though a corporate budget can!!!!)

I say group the episodes by time period and make it make sense.
Think of how wonky it would be to watch Piper and Leo get hitched in one episode and then about 2-3 episodes later, we see them meet for the very first time in a flashback. Or even worse...28 year-old Piper goes back to the end of March 1975 which is three weeks AFTER she was in March 1975 at the age of 33. Arrgh...forget the flashbacks!
Here's how I would do it: "A knight to remember" is the earliest point we have of any charmed character's life (or past life). Follow that with "All Halliwell's Eve" then "Pardon my Past" and "Witchstock" round out disc one. (and it goes on from there...)
Time order, people. Time order is the way to go!

Somebody forgot "The Witch is Back". I agree: historical time is one way to order the episodes. But, Melinda Warren belongs in there, too!
I know when I get caught up on certain topics such as Leo exposed, I gather up all of the episodes when Leo appears and start watching them in order. After Secrets and Guys, for example, I watch Love Hurts. I try to hold my nose when watching Thanks for Not Morphing!
