Future Boy, Chris Perry, is first introduced to us in Oh My Goddess, Part 1. He orbs in just in the nick of time to save Phoebe from being turned to stone and to prevent Mayte, the Titaness, from absconding with a marbelized Paige in order to steal her orbing power and destroy her essence. Chris proclaims that he has returned in order to alter the future, a future in which there are no Elders and darkness reigns. Chris sets in motion a chain of events that sees Leo become an Elder, the sisters become Greek goddesses, and the Titans vanquished by Piper and Paige.
Well, in Valhalla Part 1, Chris drops the bombshell that he has returned to save Wyatt from turning Evil. Whoa, Nellie! Just where did he get that information from? This was certainly not revealed in Oh My Goddess, merely hinted at when he mentions that the concept of family was non-existent in his future.
One way to bridge this problem is to have Chris be a veteran time-traveler. That is, he has gone back several times to get it right. We are witnessing attempt number two or three or four even. In the event, let's speculate as to the future that Chris knows about when he orbs/time travels back to the past to a) save the Elders from the Titans and b) prevent Wyatt from turning evil.
In Chris's own, pre-altered timeline, there are no Elders. Darkness reigns and the concept of family is destroyed. Paige initially is dead, and Piper too has been killed. Leo is estranged from Chris, while Wyatt has turned Evil. Phoebe seems a non-factor, but then hasn't she become more and more of one lately!
Chris has several things to fix. First, he must save the Elders, a task that can be accomplished if he can get Leo to do what the Elders would never do. Second, he must save Paige, a feat he is able to accomplish by interfering in Mayte's attempt to abscond with Paige's statue. As for Leo: we don't really understand why Leo and Chris are so estranged. Chris, as Spiderboy, lets us peer into the anger, but never explains why he is so angry. I mean what exactly did Leo do or not do over a given period of time? As for saving his mom, Chris can only hope that altering the future substantially will have a side consequence of saving Piper.
For me, Chris is unable to get all of this right the first time. True, he can save Paige, but the power of three is probably not enough to fight off the Titans, a fact he hints at but does not confirm in Oh My Goddess. A second trip back allows him to save Paige and the Elders, but he cannot prevent Evil from turning Wyatt, a fact confirmed in Chris Crossed. So, he goes back a third time - three's a Charm - to save Paige and the Elders and to have the sisters fight every demon imaginable to prevent Wyatt from turning Evil.
At least, this works logically for me. I don't need to declare Chris a liar presumably about his true purpose for returning, as some fans of the show believe. After all, one of his aims must be to defeat the Titans. That he chooses not to reveal other information is not lying. He can be fully justified in withholding this information in order to control the alterations he wishes to make to the future.
