P3 and the restaurant Piper owned had both failed last year. The Bay Mirror had been bought by a large corporate chain of newspapers. The savage cuts that followed led to the elimination of many jobs and severe reductions in salary. Phoebe could no longer afford her condo. She had fallen so far behind on her mortgage payments that the bank had repossessed the property. She was forced to move back into the manor. But, even that was no safe haven. Leo had found work in the construction industry, but wages had dropped because of all of the competition from undocumented workers. Piper had already taken out a second and third mortgage on the property in order to salvage P3. It was a wasted effort since now the sisters were at risk of losing the manor itself! Piper had already asked Paige and Henry to move back in, but Paige had so far resisted because she feared the effects of too many people crowded into too small a space as the manor offered with each of the sisters having three children and three husbands to attend to. There was only so much hot water in the house! Yes, it was the worst of times, far worse than when the sisters had been under attack by the likes of Zankou or the Source. Even the Jenkins' sisters seemed like some faraway blip, although Piper was grateful for the rent money that Billie did contribute for her room in the attic. All was not well with the Halliwells.
