More recycling of classic Charmed in this second episode of the new Charmed. Well, the story is tighter than the pilot episode. Plus, Lucy is back. We just know she is going to be some sort of demon at some point. If the elders have any say in the matter, then she will be revealed as such.
The story arc was extremely short. Is Harry to be trusted or not? Does Mom's spirit reside in the Ouija board? The girls discover that their wish is the Book of Shadows command. That is, the Book of Shadows opens to the page where a Truth Serum spell could be concocted. They immediately grasp for this straw as long as the younger sisters promise Macy not to mess with the Ouija board until they can determine whether Harry is to be trusted. Of course, the expected happens. The truth serum is placed in a flask and Niko arrives with a similar flask and the switch is on. Niko will spill her guts about everything. She does not need to wear glasses. The evidence against a perp is flimsy at best as it relies on notoriously untrustworthy eyewitness statements. She has cheated on on Mel by sleeping twice with her former fiancee. Does this remind us of Andy and Prue? Not exactly. Andy confronts Prue about the truth spell; Niko never does. Second, none of the sisters has apparently heard of "personal gain". Should the truth serum be used? Was the switch flask not an accident, but a way of punishing the sisters for using witchcraft for personal gain.
Mel and Maggie, of course, ignore their promise to Macy. They conjure Mom out of the Ouija board. As she emerges, all of the mirrors in the attic break. Now, when did that happen in Charmed? The Other Sister? Once out, this mother blames Harry for her murder. That is neither plausible nor credible. Taydeus, whom they vanquished, must surely have been the villain. Besides, has Harry evinced any of the classic signs of coldness (person, yes, but not physical). Meanwhile, Macy waits for the truth serum to take effect as she cajoles Harry to drink the spiked tea. Alas, the time elapses and Macy is nowhere near the truth. She is alerted by Mel and Maggie that the serum was not in drink. Before she can beg off, Harry whisks Macy back to the villa where Mom accuses Harry of murdering her.
Mom tells her daughters that Harry is trying to steal their powers. To prevent this the Charmed Ones have to find a mirror leading to a nether region wherein a mysterious prism is located. Bring the prism back begs Mom. Deny Harry the chance to steal the Charmed Ones powers. As the girls tramp off to Harry's office - Mom's former department office - where one of Mom's antique mirrors is still intact, Harry and Mom engage in a brutal fight. The girls enter the nether world, are lost (Little Girl Lost from the Twilight Zone), find the prism and open it with the unanimous power of three. The latter did not come easy as action by majority is used, but the minority vote feels slighted. The girls return to the villa to face Mom and Harry. Whom to believe? Maggie cannot sense any feeling with spirit Mom. She urges Mel and Macy not to trust this Mom. Mel finally acts to stab and vanquish Mom when this pseudo-Mom makes a statement that Mom never would have stated. Suffice it to say, fake Mom exhibits a preference for Mel over Maggie. Mel concludes that real Mom never would have said this.
