Post Julian McMahon, Charmed is still trying to find its compass. This episode, following on the heels of the highly entertaining The Day the Magic Died, introduces us to several new characters. Jason Dean appears as a dot-com millionaire who uses his megabucks to live out a dream as a newspaper publisher. He is immediately struck by Phoebe and has big plans for her in the future. Phoebe is star-struck - or is it just plain dumbstruck - by Jason Dean. When Leo asks Phoebe how it went with the new boss, Phoebe's response is telling: "Jason Dean? I wanna bear his children." Thus emerges one of the most intensely disliked Charmed characters: PhoeMe.
Jason Dean will hang around for a while until the mid-point of Season 6. Grace Zabriskie should have too. She is positively brilliant in her role as the Crone. Absent the Source, the Seer and the ever-brooding Cole to pose a threat and organize the underworld, the Crone is powerful enough to lay down the law: hands off baby Wyatt. This magical child is so potent that messing with the baby will mean the demise of all demons. "Don't play with fire" is sound advice that the Crone seeks to spread around. Unfortunately, some demons don't pay attention, as a Hawker demon sets out to steal the baby for a client. Somebody's going to pay and payback's truly a witch when the anger of Paige is aroused.
