One of a handful of truly incredible CHARMED episodes, ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE is the episode where the Charmed Ones are exposed, Magic is exposed, Shax, the Source's personal assassin is exposed, and we are left on the brink to wonder whether Prue or Piper will survive or die at the end of the episode. Comment here on this fabulous episode.

It was a brilliant episode but I think it was done an injustice by the episode that followed it 'Charmed Again'. Although 'Charmed Again' is a great episode it didn't follow up on the cliffhanger left by 'All Hell Breaks Loose'.
It was nevertheless a brilliant episode, Prue's emotional state at the death of Piper was truely incredible acting.

Unfortunately, the part we missed could not have been done unless someone had blinked. We really needed to see more of the desperate attempt by Leo to save Prue. We needed to see how Cole and Phoebe escaped the clutches of the Source. Although Charmed Again Part 1 is brilliant, Part 2 could use some spiffing up. I also would have preferred a better lead in to AHBL. The action is too abrupt. Nothing in any previous episode foreshadows what happens here. It all comes off as a fix, a good one, but not without flaws. But Shannen would never have agreed to a one-off. And perhaps Brad Kern did not feel it was necessary.

Its a shame they couldn't have filled in the blanks, even if they had done it in a later season that would have been enough. We never did find out how Phoebe and Cole escaped the Underworld, and how hard Leo fought to save Prue. This episode will forever be one of the best and one of the most frustrating episodes of Charmed.

Can you imagine one of the possible story lines? In Season 2, I believe, Leo relates to the Charmed Ones that he cannot heal whenever he chooses. They (the Elders) have to allow it. Now, the whole issue of the Elders exercising control over whitelighter powers is problematic, to say the least. Was there ever such a clear cut rule? Did the Elders have such powers? Imagine, though, a Leo, desperately seeking to save Prue and unable to do so by the Elders. The price of exposure? To teach the remaining sisters a lesson, especially to prevent Phoebe from consorting any further with Cole? The possibilities abound!

Posting in the Charmed Cafe, Reality Bites points us to a video created by Charmed fans that shows a different take on the events concluding All Hell Breaks Loose. Though I've yet to see this, I include this as a possibly good source. "I’ve stumbled across this awesome clip that shows an alternative memory from season 5’s “Cat House” (5x18). In this fan made video, Phoebe and Paige are transported back in time and witness Leo successfully healing Piper, but failing to heal Prue after the closing events shown in season three’s “All Hell Breaks Loose” (3x22). I marvel at the creativeness of die hard Charmed fans! It may look a little choppy, but it’s still a job well done! I know this doesn't technically (or canonically) answer the question of what happened to Prue, but it gives us a visual of one of the theories that have been brought up in the past!"
