One of the finest episodes of Charmed ever, P3H20 not only manages to save a train wreck of a season - Season 2 is my least favorite season of Charmed, although it does contain several outstanding episodes: Morality Bites, Ms. Hellfire and P3H2O among others - it gives us some important background information about Patty and her whitelighter Sam. Later, the writing team will reach back to this episode in order to introduce half-sister Paige as the replacement Charmed One, the magical offspring of an illicit tryst between Patty and Sam. If, and when, Piper decides to hook up permanently with Leo, she can only imagine the problems she and Leo will have with the Elders.
There is so much to recommend about this episode that a short introduction cannot possibly do it justice. Suffice it to say, that P3H2O introduced to the character of Sam, excellently portrayed by Scott Jaeck, explained why Prue is such a control freak (the memories of her mother's death at the hands of a water demon haunt her constantly) and provided us with the theme music that will eventually predominate in Forever Charmed, the final episode of Charmed.
