Having read all but four of the Charmed novels, I have to conclude that this novel is the worst of the lot. First, the book gets off on the wrong foot by referring to Cole as Cole "Porter". Of all the things Cole has been in his one-hundred years plus of being a demon, I doubt that Cole has attempted to compose music. Worse: Phoebe launches energy balls seemingly on command. Is this pre-Queen of the Underworld Phoebe, pregnant with demonic offspring, learning to control her fireball power? Or, is it just more nonsense? Finally, we have an early Paige experimenting with magic and (still) comparing herself to Prue. She feels of course inadequate and hopes to compensate for this by dabbling in (black) magic. She tries a shape-shifting skill that makes turns her into a cat. Although this pleases Paige immensely, she has forgotten to consider how she is going to shape shift back, especially if it involves a new potion and chanting a spell. But, wait: since when has shape shifting become a skill of white magic? With such a horrible beginning, can the book be any better?

I have read this book and I did notice the mistake with Cole's name and Phoebe's energy ball power but apart from that I did enjoy Paige's experience in ancient Egypt. It was a pretty good story, its just a pity they strayed so far from the Charmed universe.

Exactly my thoughts too. I was especially appawed (sic) by Paige's attempt to launch energy balls while shapeshifted into a cat. Otherwise, the story was kind of fun!
