The return of Chris, albeit a Chris in vision quest, is a high point of this episode. Chris aids Leo during his vision quest, a quest that Leo has undertaken in order to understand the torment that has afflicted him since the attack on Wyatt, the death of Chris, the killing of Gideon and the accidental death of Zola.
Paige and Phoebe are paired off for the other plot element during this story. Agent Brody (Kyle to Paige; Agent Brody to Phoebe) has asked the sisters for help in solving a string of miraculous live saving incidents that are quicky undone when the unlikely survivor falls victim to more mundane accidents. Brody suspects the Avatars at work.
Using high tech equipment, Brody has the scene that the sisters are about to witness filmed. As expected, a would be fire victim escapes death by leaping out of a burning building and latching onto a fire escape and slides to safety. Moments later, the victim is run over by a delivery truck. The sisters are puzzled and so is Brody.
Later, Paige is shown the video that Brody's men have shot. It reveals a mysterious white light (guardian angel) and dark light (Celerity Demon) surrounding the victim. Paige prepares a spell to slow down time in order to reveal the mystery while Brody prepares himself to be in the next victim.
Paige's spell works all too well. Time indeed slows down. She is able to identify the demon, as well as Brody's guardian angel. However, her own guardian angel has been revealed. The celerity demon prefers the latter and leaves Paige vulnerable to thrills and spills.
The Celerity Demon's actions are puzzling, yet understandable in light of the growing threat. Why would a celerity demon want the powers of guardian angels? To protect against the looming threat, of course. As the demon acquires more guardians, he challenges his mentor (Peter Woodward - Source Version #3 - in a new role). After acquiring Paige's guardian angel, he succeeds in slaying his mentor. Now, he is resolved to get the remaining Charmed Ones' guardian angels.
But, Piper and Phoebe are protected inside a crystal cage where Leo is undergoing his vision quest. Yet, the Avatar masks penetrate this cage and continue their torment of Leo. The stakes have been raised as Avatar Alpha reveals to Leo the certain premature death of every living Warren witch. The threat takes on added significance when Piper and Phoebe are forced to leave the protection of the crystal cage in order to retrieve the Book of Shadows from the kitchen in order to vanquish the Celerity demon. Paige meanwhile has orbed in (to the cage) and out after Brody is taken prisoner by the demon.
Outside the cage, Phoebe and Piper are vulnerable. Phoebe is the first to die, but succeeds in removing the protection amulet from the demon. Piper vanquishes him, but is mortally wounded by a deadly arm extending fork. Leo is awakened from his Avatar trauma by Avatar Alpha and shown the dead bodies. He agrees to join the fold and discovers he has the ability to heal the dead. As Leo revives Piper and Phoebe, Paige, accompanied by Brody, orbs in. Puzzled, she recognizes that there's something about Leo, for he has just healed the dead!
