HOW TO VANQUISH A CoW Hear these words, our plaintive cry Demonic forces control the sky Let their evil deeds go unseen By the old, the young and the in-between Deceit through TV they would have spun Derail their plans, their deeds undone. Cast one and all to their wasteland Return us Charmed as we demand! Repeat this spell every Sunday night!

A preliminary report finds that the spell has been more effective than imagined. The CoW was compelled to recognize that its Sunday night comedy block was a ratings disaster. Not even a rerun of America's Next Top Model could salvage the situation. So, send the comedy block back to Monday night and call upon 7th Heaven and Runaway to rescue Sunday nights. Give them a bit of a helping hand by moving the rerun of America's Next Top Model to 7 pm. Now I ask you: was Charmed such a bad show that it couldn't achieve above a 3 on Sunday night (except for Forever Charmed) during a very challenging season 8 and deserved the announcement of its cancellation. Hardly! Charmed did as well as could be expected on a difficult night. With a better cast and better scripts, it might have even done better, as in the old days.

Wait was Seventh Heaven actually doing well? Moving it to 8PM Sunday does sort of make sense if it is. It's different enough from Makeover/TAR/Football/Animation that it could pull in some ratings (If it doesn't still suck...)
But putting their new drama Runaway vs major dramas Desperate Housewives & Cold Case? Seem like a Bad Bad idea, Runaway was already a dissapointment for a lot of viewers (me included), but given time it could possibly be improved. Time it's now not going to have as it's going to get killed at 9 on Sundays. (Charmed & Supernatural reruns were the most successful thing on the WB at 9 weren't they? Both are again shows that can appeal to a completely different target audience, Runaway really doesn't have that. Maybe move either Smallville or Supernatural to Sunday, can they really do much worse than on Thursdays in the big war against Betty, Survivor, Earl&Office, Greys, and CSI?) Then again what else could they put Thursdays that would survive at all... Though I could see Runaway having a slightly better chance surviving Thursdays at 8 rather than Sunday at 9...
I also hate seeing Chris up against How I Met Your Mother, both are shows appealing to a similiar style of comedy audience. CBS always wins those battles. If only the CW would swap Chris for All of Us. The Class is rather sucky, and from the little bit I saw of All of Us it is too and will be lucky to survive. Why not give Chris a chance against the weakest competition....

Sundays at 9 pm is definitely a problem. And, yes: classic Charmed did well, as did Supernatural. I think Runaway is doomed. 7th Heaven might hold its own. But my spell is indiscriminate.

There's more to the story. Everybody Hates Chris clearly did better on Monday night (3+ ratings). 7th Heaven did okay: 3.17 at 8 pm. Runaway got runover at 9 pm: 1.79. Now, what if Charmed had left Sunday night and been returned to a regular night? Hmmm!
Still, my spell still stands. Let's vanquish the CoW!

Runaway = CANCELLED!
I'll be interested to see what they put there now... Reruns or will they throw something else to the lions?

Latest news: on Friday, 20 October a press release stated that Runaway was the first casualty of the CoW. Apparently, it never took off, not even when placed in the Classic Charmed time spot. For those of you who were fans, I apologize for the seeming gloating. But, did the network really give this show a chance by pitting it against Desperate Housewives. Even NBC had the sense to move Law and Order: CI.
