For those who thought that It's a Bad, Bad, BAD, BAD World marked the end of efforts to turn Wyatt evil as the main culprit, Gideon, was outed before the Elders, think again. Here Vicus, a demon who attempts to gain baby Wyatt's trust in order to turn Wyatt evil, poses as an imaginary f(r)iend. Wyatt is observed talking to himself; when, in reality, he is responding to Vicus. To learn more about Wyatt, Phoebe interviews Professor Slotkin, her instructor in the graduate program in Psychology she is attending, while Piper attempts a spell to hear the inner Wyatt. Alas, she summons adult Wyatt from the future, a feat which prompts Phoebe, upon stumbling onto the scene, to ask whether another spell has backfired. Of course, it has.
This is a very moving, if slow-paced episode, that demonstrates that magic may not even be needed to protect Wyatt from turning evil. Rather it is trust. Piper and Leo, as well as his aunts, need to provide a warm, nurturing environment where Wyatt can enjoy the complete trust of those around him. This, in itself, can not guarantee that Wyatt will not turn evil, but it is a necessary condition for him to choose the path of Good.
