Amara, a really ugly witch, seeks to thwart Zankou's attempt to unite the Underworld under his leadership and to gain access to Charmed power. A minion cuts a bit of Phoebe's hair during an attack in an elevator. With this key ingredient, the soul swap can take place. Amara's soul invades Phoebe's body, while Phoebe's is imprisoned in Amara's body. The incarceration is complete when Phoebe/Amara is locked inside a magical cage.
While all of this is going on, Paige is preoccupied by her first charge: Mitchell, the speedy one, who has burned through several whitelighters already. Paige, confident that she can break through to him, tries the direct approach and fails, an indirect approach that totals her rental car and angers Mitchell to the point where he wishes nothing further to do with her, and then the sensible approach where she tries to understand why Mitchell was rejecting his special ability.
The two stories merge as one when Amara/Phoebe has a lock of her hair clipped by Mitchell after Phoebe/Amara has been vanquished by Amara/Phoebe. The remaining two sisters need the lock of hair to attempt another soul swap by summoning Phoebe's soul from the astral plane and expelling Amara's.

Although this is a really great episode, I was bothered by the blunder at the end when Elise announces why Dr. Randall, the psychologist hired by the legal department to vet Ask Phoebe, would not be returning. In short, Elise states that until now the Bay Mirror had yet to have any legal problems with Ask Phoebe. Thus, there was no need for Dr. Randall, especially after he accused Phoebe of seducing him and claiming that Phoebe had given him free reign to re-write her column. Actually, Elise is mistaken. In "The Importance of Being Phoebe" (Season 5), Cole has manipulated a legal assault on the Bay Mirror by a reader accusing Phoebe of giving harmful advice. Oops!
